Kolkata,June 22 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): The birth centenary of Sitar Maestro Khan Sahab Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan was celebrated in Kolkata on Wednesday with a performance by eminent Indian classical music artists.
Debu Chaudhuri and Prateek Chaudhuri on the Sitar, Kumar Bose on the Tabla, Ustad Rashid Khan on Vocal, Shubhankar Banerjee on Tabla, and Jyoti Goha on Harmonium performed in the event.
The performance was presented by the UMAK Centre for Culture which was created in the memory of Khan with a hope of awakening the future generations on how music can be played with restraint and purity.
Situated in New Delhi, the UMAK Centre is devoted to the propagation and preservation of the traditional art of sitar-playing.
This is the only Gharana in India which is maintaining the oldest tradition of sitar-playing with 17 Frets.
