The film ‘Transformer 2‘ starts thousands of years ago when the ancestors of the modern transformers the Primes landed on the earth. The story then advances in the modern age in Shanghai, China where the Optimus, the Autobot with his group of transformers and the human military group together form the NEST defensive group, fights the Deceptions. That is where the NEST comes to know about the come back of ‘the fallen’.
The Fallen is a Prime who once has an avenge to take from the humans. Long ago in time, their fraternity were searching for stars and drain their energy and transform them into ‘energon’ that can power Cybertron’s AllSpark. The device used to drain the energy from the starts was called the ‘Sun Harvester’ which had an indispensable core called the ‘Matrix of Leadership’ without which the Sun Harvester would not work. The prime brothers agreed on one point that they would not cause any harm to the planets with life, when making the ‘energon’, except for the Fallen, who wanted to destroy the earth. To save the earth from facing its end, the other primes stole the Matrix of Leadership and hid it in a place so that the Fallen that no one knew. Later in the film, it is revealed that they buried themselves wit the matrix in a chamber in one of the pyramids in the Egyptian desert, which means that they sacrificed their lives in order to save the earth and the lives on it, they sacrificed their lives.
The story of ‘Transformer 2‘, from Shanghai China, comes back to the USA – that is where the main film starts with Sam home to go to college. His mom is very upset about her young ‘baby’ going to live so far from home. As Sam talks to his girlfriend Mikaela over the phone, a tiny particle of the demised Allspark falls of from his old jacket that he is holding. This particle transforms all the household articles, who create a big mess in the house, and at the same time fills Sam’s minds with symbols that he is unable to understand. The cops come to take over the situation, and Sam tells them nothing about the actual incident. Instead he leaves the Allspark fragment in Mikeala’s safekeeping, bids good-bye to his transformer car ‘Bumblebee’ and leaves for college.
In a few days, Mikeala catches the Deception while spying on her for the shard, and locks him in a safe. In college Sam meets his room mate Leo, an outstandingly over-smart fellow who runs a website on aliens. Sam continues to see the alien symbols over and over again that gets him into trouble everywhere. He is thrown out of class by his professor, and is followed by a girl named Alice everywhere, who tries to attract him sexually. But they all find out later, Alice is nothing but a pretender. When Alice tries to attack Sam, Mikela comes just in time to save him. The trio – Leo, Sam and Likeala run together for life and in this pursuit, Alice is destroyed.
In the meantime, the Deceptions hack the US security service and resurrect the Megatron’s deceased body with an AllSpark shard who then goes back to space to unite with the Fallen to avenge on the humans. Megatron and Starscream follow Megatron’s orders to capture Sam to get to the Matrix of Leadership. Sam with his friends are captured, and when the Deceptions try to get to Sam’s brain for the alien symbols, BumbleBee and Optimus infiltrate just in time to save Sam’s life. Sam has previously rejected Optimus to get into their fight with the Megatron’s, since he thought it is not his war, and he did not want to ruin his normal life- but now it is Optimus who dies to save Sam’s life.
Sam is now to be led by Bumblebee and the twin Skids, who have been with Optimu in all his missions. And with Sam comes Mikeala and Leo, much to the latter’s disgust, since there is no way for him to go back. Mikeala brings with her the Deception wheelie she has captured and threatens to damage his other eye, is he is not good to her. Sam begins the second part of this expedition on this own that he is now destined to lead.
With Optimus now dead, the Deceptions are more confident in ever. They threat to destroy the planet earth, if not handed Sam. Leo helps Sam by taking him to his rival, whom Sam already knew as Simmons – the ex-Sector Seven agent, who was fired in accusation of being obsessed by aliens. Simmons confirms that the trmasformers have visited the world long long ago. He shows pictures of the ancient civilizations from all over the world, where scientists have found the same marks all over the ancient ruins. Simmon now runs a meat shop, where he has saved all the records from his previous works in a secret chamber in the basement of the building. The Deception wheelie identifies the symbols that Sam sees as the language of the Primes. But neither the whellie, nor the twins can read the language. The whole group goes to the Smithsonian air and space museum, where they transform the Deception Jetfire, who can read the symbols. Jetfire teleports them all to Egypt, since it is the fastest way to get to the land of the pyramids from the Unites States of America. The whole group pops up in the land of sand and gigantic stones from the middle of nowhere. The trip was crazy, but worth it. Jetfire tells them that the Matrix of Leadership is hidden somewhere in the desert and Sam has to get the matrix before the Fallen or his group does.
The matrix was initially designed for some other reason, but Sam starts believing that it, being energy, can bring Optimus back to life. Simmon calls the NEST force and convince them to bring the body of Optimus in Egypt. In that way, they save the world.
In the meantime, the Sam’s group the self-buried bodies of the ancient primes with the matrix of leadership. But when Sam takes it in his hands, it crumbles into dust. Sam sticks to his belief that the matrix can bring Optimus back to life, and collects the dust.
The US military arrive timely at the desert, and with them come the Deceptions too. The also bring with them Sam’s parents. There starts a huge fight between the two. In the meantime, Sam tries to get closer to Optimus with the matrix dust. But in the war, he gets hurt and his heart stops breathing. The army men try to make his heart work to bring him back to life. In this sleep, Sam meets the ancient Primes, who tells him that they the Matrix of Leadership has to be earned. They have been watching Sam all his life, and now that he has earned the matrix, he should go back to Optimus. Once they give Sam back the matrix, it gets back its original shape. Sam comes back to life again, and with the matrix, he brings Optimus back to life.
But again the story falls from its climax. The Fallen steals the matrix from Optimus and uses it to activate the Sun Harvester. But Jetfire gives Optimus his body parts and energy to Optimus, with which he destroys the Sun Harvester and kills the Fallen. But Megatron and Starsreams evade and promise to come back to take their revenge. For the fans of the Transformer series, it may hint the sequel of the ‘Revenge of the Fallen‘.
With the discovery of their past relationship, the human race resume its friendly journey with the Autobots, with the hope of securing each others future.
- The film has a good cast and character creations.
- Shia LaBeouf as Sam is good, and probably more matured.
- Megan Fox plays Mikaela Banes is gorgeous with her ocean deep blue eyes, and copper color skin. She did a good role in playing Makiela, a girl who loves Sam so much that even after a few sad incidents with Sam, she could not break up with him, even though in spur of the moment she says she would. Megan put a lot of expressionism in her action, though she has never overdid it.
- Kevin Dunn and Julie White as Sam’s parents are great! Ramon Rodriguez as Leo and John Turturro as Simmons are good too.
- The sets and automation are great. ‘Transformer 2’ is filled with small humors all over. The science fiction based story has not ended up in an funless film.
- Though a couple of humor scenes seemed a little more over the boundary – like Sam’s mother getting under the influence of some weird substance in his college, Simmons and Leo in undies.
- The film has a very good and strong script, that makes the conversational parts enjoyable all throughout the film, with the dialogues between the twin autobots worth mentioning in particular. The scene where the snob US military chief, is thrown of out the airplane in a parachute, also had some good humor in. And the director has certainly startled us with the character of Alice. Isabel Lucas in her cameo role of Alice leaves more than a momentous influence.
- The scenes shot in Egypt are great. Some of scenes may look exaggerated, since there were not much variations in the performances of the transformers, from the beginning to the end of the film. Also, in certain portions of the film, the happenings can seem to go very fast. Before we get to know what is going on in a scene, the story jumps to another.
- But ‘Revenge Of the Fallen’ is good movie on the whole.
From the Paramount productions, the release date for the next Transformers sequel was said to be the 4th July, 2011, but according to the director of the Transformer series, Micheal Bay, the sequel is coming in July, 2012.
