Kolkata, November 2, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Tourism in West Bengal needs a real boost in their branding, said a top official. “Tourism in West Bengal needs a real boost in their branding and marketing strategy to come in the fore front,” said TVN Rao, Managing Director of West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation, at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) session here.
[ReviewAZON asin=”B003SNJABG” display=”inlinepost”]In his inaugural address, Rao apprised that though Tourism is one of the largest sectors in India and is growing, Tourism in West Bengal needs a real boost in their branding and marketing strategy to come in the fore front.
“They need to have a branding of their own,” he said.
He informed that the number of accreditated tour operators in West Bengal is only 3 as compared to Delhi which has 285 tour operators and Maharashtra which has 14 tour operators.
He mentioned that though the Tourism sector in West Bengal has huge potential but they really need to work hard to make West Bengal as the most favoured destination in India.
“They really need to work on their infrastructural development and with the growing popularity of e-tourism, the service providers must develop the West Bengal tourism website.”
He also informed that the Government is spending more than Rs 120 crores in destination development in the year 2009 – 2010 and 2010 – 2011 and to create that unique brand identity of West Bengal, the Government is spending Rs 10 crores in publicity and promotions, this year in compare to Rs 6 crores last year to make the West Bengal as the most preferred tourism destination of West Bengal.
