‘Tin Ekke Tin’ is a good commertial movie with three women as its central characters. Mukti, Maya, Alo are three friends from middle class families who have high hopes and ambition in life. They are well educated and talented. But when they need a bank loan to start a small business, they could not get a loan from anywhere. Nobody trusts in their abilities because they are women. In the mean time, Mukti and Maya get married to two guys (Saswata, Badsha) who are good and sweet but are not probably smart enough compared to their wives. One’s wife is highly educated with a management degree (Shreelekha) and the other is a state champion (Koninika) in Kabadi. The third friend Alo (Nilanjan)a has a degree from the theater school but does not get a break in the movies just because she has no contacts. In course of the movie, she meets a compassionate honest film director with whom she falls in love.
The three friends, rejected several times to get a bank loan in a decent official manner now plans for a bank robbery. Alo takes driving lessons, Maya goes to the karate classes and Mukti does all the detailed homework for the robbery. On the day of the robbery, they grab the driving school car doping the driver, Bhombol (Tapas Pal) and when they reached the bank, the bank is already inundated with the gang of terrorists. The girls are stupefied but still do not give up. After a chase and pick fight they captivate the gang running away with 50 crore rupees. Then these three friends, in the wink of an eye, become “heroes” in eyes of both the public and the media. The girls call for a press conference where they refuse the award of 50 lakh rupees offered by the government and confessed their plan for bank robbery. But they still gain public affection. People from all over the state make donations to them so that they can start their business they have always dreamed of.
The movie deals with the certain women problems in a comical gesture. In this 21st century the women with all their merit and credits do not always get proper respect and trust, even in a city like Kolkata. (What is going on the subarbs and the rural areas then?) And it is not always the men who do not have faith in women’s abilities, there are women too who do not trust in other women’s abilities. It is after all a male dominated society and any gender can be its representative.
The movie is full of funny scenes and fun characters like a nosey neighbour (Paran Bandopadhyay) peeping out of his window and watching on the girls, a police officer (Shubhendu Chatterjee) fond of planchet an unemployed middle-aged guy (Tapas Pal) buying a second hand car and opening a driving school etc. Some of them are just like our next-door people – very realistic.
We sure don’t have a lot of movies like this in the Bengali cinema. But this can be a very good start. Unlike a lot of other Bengali movies, this is not a copycat of Bollywood style. The story, screenplay, music and lyrics are very original and contemporary. The graphics are excellent. All the acors and actresses are excellent. Saswata is brilliant as a unsmart goody-goody husband. Geeta Dey, Shantilal made very short appearences. Kushal Chakrabarty and Tapas Pal did a good job but they look like they need to set off some extra pounds. The songs in the male voices are excellent while the ones in the female voices could have been made better. The song lipped Badshah Moitra is awesome! We need mroe songs like this in Bengali films – perfect romantic lyrics put into overflowing numbers.
