Kolkata, Aug 24 (IBNS): The South Eastern Railway has suspended the driver of a local train as the authorities ordered an inquiry to determine how two trains came on the same line at Sankrail, Howrah, on Sunday afternoon.
SER’s General Manager Aditya Mishra said on Monday the inquiry committee was asked to submit a report within three days on how the two trains came on the same line at Sankrail on the Howrah-Kharagpur division at about 3.16 pm.
Hundreds of passengers of Dn East Coast and the Panskura local survived from a possible major train disaster after East Coast’s driver J K Behera slowed down his train and finally braked after seeing the local train on its path some 150 metres away.
SER GM said the driver of the local train might have missed the signal and moved further but full details will be available only after the inquiry report.
