Teacher’s thrashing leaves Class 10 student with fracture

Lucknow, July 18 (Calcutta Tube) A 15-year-old Class 10 student’s left arm was fractured following a beating by a teacher in a private school here for poor performance in a test, the teenager’s father told police Sunday.

Ritikesh Pandit invited the beating from a woman teacher for poor performance in an internal class test. He secured only three marks out of ten, said the police complaint filed by his father.

The incident took place Friday but it came to light after the boy’s father Ved Prakash Pandit lodged a report with police here Sunday.

According to the report: ‘At least half a dozen students of the class had secured three or less than three marks in the test. This infuriated their teacher Archana Kumari, who flared up and started thrashing the kids.’

Tushar, Salil, Kushal, Arun and Yatishwar were other students who received severe thrashing at the hands of the teacher.

Ritikesh received such a severe blow from the teacher that he cried in pain and had to be rushed to a doctor, the complaint said.

‘It was an X-ray that revealed a fracture near his wrist,’ Pandit, an employee of the Geological Survey of India, told IANS.

He said: ‘I do not think that poor performance in a test entitles a teacher to beat up students. I have, therefore, sought severe action against the teacher.’

School manager Hriday Narain Jaiswal denied the charge levelled against the teacher. ‘No such incident has taken place. We treat our students with lots of love and affection. I am sure there is some mischief being played by someone.’

Denying knowledge of the incident, Lucknow District Inspector of Schools Ganesh Kumar said: ‘Since no such incident has been reported to me I am not in a position to make any comment. However, if necessary, we will order an inquiry and proceed accordingly.’
