‘Streer Parta’, a classic Bengali film by the remouned filmmaker-poet-artist Purnendu Patri, is based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore written around 1915. It is about the conflicts of thoughts and idealism of contemporary Bengali socitey and a learnned lady, who is much ahead of her time. The story was ahead of time too. It is a great by a great director, and the cast is exellect by Madhabi Mukherjee, Santosh Dutta, Nimu Bhowmick and many other actors. The music is great too.
Sonar Kella (1974) is one the greatest detective movies ever made in the history of Bengali (Bangla) Cinema. The famous detective Feluda (Prodosh Chandra Mitra), created by Satyajit Ray, gets a very unusual case of reincarnation. This little boy, Mukul Dhar, recalls living in a golden fortress in his previous life, seeing ancient battles and more interestingly he says there were many precious stones and gems in his house. Soumitra Chatterjee is excellent as Feluda and Santosh Dutta is equally brilliant as Jatayu. The movie is full of numerous humors from Jatayu. It is a very enjoyable movie with lots os suspence in it. It is a good family movie and specially enjoyable for the children. The movie also shows lots of unique features of Rajasthan including the desert Camel, forts, etc. The scene of Jatayu’s camel ride was particularly very enjoyable.Mostly the movie was shooted in Rajasthan. This film deals with certain facts of parapsychology, hypnotism, reincarnation, telepathy which youngsters seem to enjoy a lot.
‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’, the sequel of Satyajit Ray’s ‘Gupi Gayin Bagha Bayain’, is a classic film for the children that cast the greats actors of the Bengali cinema – Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Rabi Ghosh, Utpal Dutta, Santosh Dutta, Jahar Ray, Tapen Chattopadhyay, Rabi Ghosh. It is a film that never gets old. The eminent singer Anup Ghoshal sung playbacked in the film.
