The Mummy-Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Review

The film begins by the narration of an event that takes place in ancient China 2000 years ago. The ambitious Han emperor (Zet Li) has conquered all his mortal enemies, many of whom he buried under the Great wall of of China to protect his kingdom, has mastered the five elements water, wood, metal, fire, and earth, and then attempts to conquer death. He sends for a sorceress Zi Yuan (Michelle Yeoh) to help him find immortality, but to his surprise he finds out that the witch is a young beautiful lady. Han commands the faithful chief General Ming to see that nobody else touches the girl, because he himself wants her. General Ming, however, falls in love with her and Han comes to know of this affair through a spy. Han punishes Ming by pulling him apart by horses. He stabs Zi Yuan, but to his horror discovers that the witch has already cursed him. Han, with his battalion was petrified into terra cotta statues and his vast kingdom falls in oblivion of the outer world waiting for somebody to wake it up.

The movie then jumps to the modern era. It is 1946 when Alex, son of explorers Rick and Evelyn O’Connell (the adventurist couple from The Mummy Returns), finds the tomb of the Han Emperor, with help from archeologist Roger Wilson and sends it to the Shanghai Museum. In the tomb, they were attacked by a mysterious woman who in course will be known as Lin, the daughter of Zi Yuan. The O’Connell family visits the Chinese Museum where they discover that Roger Wilson is in conspiracy with General Yang who wants to bring the Dragon Emperor back to life. Yang eventually awakes the Han’s Emperor’s terra cotta statue. The O’Connell family travels to the snow covered Himalayas to prevent the Han Emperor to become immortal. They seek advice from Zi Yuan, who has obtained immortality for herself and her daughter Lin, and has been living in the Himalayas after being saved by the Yetis. To stop Emperor Han from being immortal, Zi Yuan sacrifices her immortality, as well as of her daughter’s, wakes the dead soldiers from under the Great Wall of China, who fights against the Han Emperor’s terra cotta soldiers. Zi Yuan gets killed in the battle, but Alex stabs the Han Emperor with a special dagger, which is the only thing in the world that could kill the Dragon Emperor.

The movie is good one as far as the technical sides are concerned. The cameras, photography, scenes were really unique. However, the story lays a lot of emphasis on the family drama of the O’Connell family, like in the scenes where Rick gets killed, the family gets devastated, and he is brought back to life by Zi Yuan, than on the Dragon Emperor. An actor like Jet Li, was not exploited in the movie to his fullest capability. Most of the time, things revolved round the O’Connell family, Zi Yuan and Lin.

Some of the plots were too much superficial like the O’Connells getting an aircraft and flying to the remotest parts of the Himalayas any time they wanted to, Rick and Evelyn fighting with the hundreds of the terra cotta armies without being hurt. It seemed really bizarre that the anti-Han army was constantly being saved by the Yetis, who seemed well-trained enough to know how to distinguish between the good and the evil.

The battle-field scenes could have made a little bit more matured for the older audiences. The mummified armies fighting each other looked like a mere puppet show. The formation of the Yetis deserved some more imagination and maturity. The scenes in the snow-covered mountains were awesome; however, the action scenes were not that singular, though action and magical spells were more emphasized in the movie than the detailed explanation of the historical part of the story itself. On the whole, it is pretty much watchable movie.

Ravi Kinagi. You may not know the name. Specially if you are one of those people who have lost their hope in Bengali Films. Ravi Kinagi also does not have a profile on Internet Movie Database (IMDB). However, he is one of the most prominent director in Bengali Cinema these days who can bring people to the movie halls. He does not do films that we call “intellectual” however he makes commertial films and the does a very good job. His stories are most of the time a mixture of nultiple Hindi films but blended extremely nicely in Bengali perspective. His latest film “Premer Kahini” is another very successful film by him. It did so well in Calcutta that most of the cinema halls were house-ful for several weeks.

Akash (Deb) and Barsha (Koyel Mullick) met just by mere accident. Deb fell in love with Koyel Mullick instantly. However he lost contact with Koyel and could not track her address by any means. He was visiting a marriage ceremony of the doughter of his mom’s friend and to his surprize, he found the bride was Koyel Mullick herself. Now I am sure you can image the scene in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” and so on. After that there are some good emotional drama followed by a happy ending.

Jishu Sengupta was seen for a short period and came to sacrifice Koyel to Deb. Ranjit Mullick is simply excellent as he is in any other Bengali movies. Jit Ganguly did a nice job with music direction too. The film has very good cinematography and it should be a very enjoyable film for your family to watch together.

This film also means a lot for Deb. There is only only ONE actor who has firmed his place as “hero” in Tollywood after Prosenjit. That is Jeet. Recently there are some more bengali heroes coming up in Tollywood. Deb is now a common face to all due to the huge success of “Premer Kahini”. He is now even getting offers to do item songs in other movies too (a trend from Bollywood)! Please write your own review of the film if you have watched it! Thank You in advance.

Review of The Forbidden Kingdom

Well, I am little bit late writing my own review of the film. I decided to watch the movie last Friday night, the day it was released, but could not make it and watched “The Forbidden Kingdom” on Saturday. I don’t watch too many films in theater. But how on earch could I miss Jackie Chan and Jet Li? I am a big martial art fan and so, Jachie Chan and Jet Li both are my favorites. I had to watch, and I watched it!

I live in a small town and for whatever reason it looks like we do not have too many movie goers in our area. I remember when I went for “Return of Spidy” the movie hall was about half full, same was for the last Harry Potter Movie. Well, for “The Forbidden Kingdom” there were hardly 30 people in Cinema 8 movie theater! But, less people means less talk and least noise! So, we had great time watching the movie.

Rob Minkoff directed the film “The Forbidden Kingdom“. Rob Minkoff is not only a superb director, he is also a producer, an actor, a writer and more. “The Lion King”, “Stuart Little”, were produced under his direction. Check the IMDB portfolio of the director to know him better.

Well, lets get back to the story now.

Jason (Michael Angarano) is a American Teenager. He is obsessed with martial arts and watch those movies all day and night. He even keep the TV running at night! He gets all his kung-fu classic films from a local movie shop own by a Chinese person (Jackie Chan) . Accidentally he found an antique stick that belongs to legendary Monkey King (Jet Li) in that shop. While holding the legendary weapon in his hand Jason is taken to ancient china by some super natural force. He wake up and find himself in a land he has never been, not even in his dream. However, the people of that far land seems to recognize the stick he is carrying and start questioning about it. Some even tries to rob his stick. While he is being chased by a group of warriors riding horse, a drunk person comes. He is pathetic and could not even stand properly. Jason hits the drunk man. He smiles and then shows amazing kung-fu to beat the nasty warriors. He is Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) - the drunken Kung-Fu Master! Jason and Jackie Chan become friends and while having their lunch at some restaurant they meet vengeance-bent kung fu beauty - Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei).

Monkey King has been imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Warlord could never possibly beat the monkey king and used deception to turn the monkey king into stone. But there was a prophecy that someone will come to return the “Staff (the stick Jason carrying)” to the stoned Monkey King which will release his imprisonment. The evil Warlord also killed Golden Sparrow’s parents. So, now Jason, Jackie Chan and Crystal Liu become friends! They were walking the path toward the mansion of Warlord while the “Staff” is robbed by a white monk in horse. Jackie Chan goes to recover the “Staff” from the thief monk and found that the monk is also in a mission to find out the person who is supposed to return the “Staff” to Monkey King. Guess what? The white monk is also Jet Li!

So, we have both Jackie Chan and Jet Li in Double Role!

Well there are multiple opponents that Jason has to overcome to reach Warlord and he did that with support from Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

The film is enormously funny, as always with any Jackie Chan Movies. Both Jackie Chan and Jet Li look old but still they are extremely brilliant in the action sequences. I sometimes felt that some of the action sequences could have been little bit more longer (probably because I love action) specially the “Drunken Kung Fu” sequence by Jackie Chan and the final fight of Jet Li with Warlord.

I heard that it took almost 100 days to shoot the film. It is a great pleasure to my eyes watching beautiful China. I highly recommend everybody to watch the film.
Jason learns a lot along the journey through the “forbidden kingdom”.

Dhol 2007 Bollywood Movie Review, Trailor

Dhol 2007 Bollywood Movie Review, Trailor
Cast: Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Tanushree Datta, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri, Payal Rohatgi, Arbaaz Khan ….Director: Priyadarshan
Music Director: Pritam
Rating: 2/5

One Line Reveiw: Dont expect much from the movie as Priyadarshan never managed to take his talents back to Hera Feri of Hungama.

It seems like Priyadarshan is still trying to search his true identity. Also, it seems that he has too many ideas that he is too keen to use too many times in too many films. Bhagam Bhag was slightly different but his latest DHOL is completely worthless. Sharman Joshi — remember him as the great guy of the movie STYLE. He is a great actor and comedian. Pridarshan failed to use him or any other in his film. The only person to watch is our dearest Rajpal Jadav. But it is Rajpal Jadav who will make anything great for any film director.

The story is a punch of thriller and love and …you know all that stuff. Four guys Pankaj or Pakkya ( Sharman Joshi), Sameer (Tusshar Kapoor), Gautam or Goti ( Kunal Khemu), Makrand or Maru (Rajpal Yadav) in search of their fortune and future. They live together and do nothing but think about bright future! After they were denied for a bank loan, they had no ther option than to find a rich girl and get married. So, like numerous other bollywood films they also strart trying their luck with every single girl in town. Ritu Tripathi (Tanushree) happens to come into the city as their rich neighbour and all four get into wooing her, each trying to outdo the other. Ritu came to city to find out more about the death of her brother. The four guys decide to start a play and they pretended to be the best friends of Ritu’s brother.

Well stop here for a minute. and think. Why on earth we need such a MEAN script to make a comedy movie? It seems meaner the plot is better for the crowd! Now lets go back.
Well, they all become big liers. Their drama continued till they were caught up by Sophia - another sexy girl in this movie! Then Zikomo (Murli Sharma) came into action. The viewed made aware that Zikomo was looking for a DHOL!

The story of the film is worthless and Priyadarshan failed to pay proper attention to every character. The character of Arbaz Khan should have been lot better. The DHOL is one one the craziest idea I have ever seen in my whole life.

Pritam’s music was okie. The film has only few funny scenes to remember so just watch if you have to and forget all about it. Performance is one thing that people could look forward to. While Sharman and Rajpal Yadav are as good as usual with their comic timings, Kunal Khemu reveals his funny side with Dhol. Chemistry between all four guys is good. Among others Rasika Joshi (known for playing Tusshar’s tyrant mother in Gayab) comes up with some superb moments in the film. Tanushree need to dress better and lose some weight.

So, my search for another good Priyadarshan movie continues. …..when should I get it? Dhol Bajne Laga?
