Veteran singer Manna Dey is not impressed by A.R. Rahman’s ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jai Ho’, even though the songs earned him unprecedented fame and glory and the ultimate – Oscar. The 91-year-old celebrity Manna Dey, who ruled his genre of traditional Hindustani music for nearly seven decades, feels: ‘Rahman’s redefinition of ‘Vande Mataram’ does not go with the ethos behind the song, which is a salute to your mother.’
Bollywood’s veteran actor and megastar Amitabh Bachchan will record the original version of Madhushala by his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The proud son, who has, of late, been delving into his father’s lines repeatedly for inspiration, says that he will record the original version of ‘Madhushala’ as composed by his father as soon as he has the time. Of course, it will be accompanied by a lavish and lucid orchestra, done in full ‘dolby-digital glory’, so that ‘Madhushala’ becomes accessible to the younger generations.
