‘Pather Panchali’, the first of the Apu trilogy directed by Satyajit Ray and based on a novel by Bibhuti Bhusan Bandopadhyay marked a distinct milestone of the Bengali, as well as Indian cinema and the advent of a world-class director that the Indian cinema was going to have. The film is a unique creation of all times. It is about the journey of a little boy Apu, his adventures with his elder sister Durga, his world of dreams and wonders that revolved around his mother Sarbajaya, his father Harihar- who stayed away from the family, his paternal aunt Indir-thakrun, his wonders and explorations of trivialities. It is not the things that fills you wonders have to be extraordinary, it is the vision you look with makes everyday life wonderful. ‘Pather Panchali’ is a film that is very hard to describe in words, but sets you on a wonderful magical ride that takes us all to our childhood dreams with Apu and Durga. The cast is wonderful with Karuna Banerjee, Kanu Bandopadhyay, Chunibala Debi, Uma DasGupta, Subir Banerjee, where the actor acted non-actingly.
A magical movie, a splendid odessey, a lifetime of dreams!
