Stumbling visitor damages Picasso’s ‘Actor’ in New York

New York, Jan 26 (Calcutta Tube) A woman stumbled into a Pablo Picasso painting and tore a 15-cm-rip into the 100-year-old treasure, ‘The Actor’, the Metropolitan Museum of Art said Monday.

The accident happened Friday when a woman who was visiting the museum with a group of art students lost her balance and fell into the painting.

The damage was in the lower right corner of the painting, which was done during Picasso’s rose period. It was brought to conservators who hoped that it could be repaired without any visible damage, the museum said.

The painting, which was to be part of a large Picasso exhibit from April 27 to Aug 1, has been owned by the museum since 1952.
