New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) A 63-year-old professor of the prestigious St. Stephen’s College Wednesday jumped to death from his south Delhi residence, police said.
Mahesh Chander Jain, a teacher in chemistry department, was found dead in the courtyard of his house in Greater Kailash around 8.30 a.m.
‘We suspect that he jumped from the window of his second floor room,’ a police officer said.
‘In his suicide note, Jain said no one else is responsible for his death. He said he was taking the extreme step as he was depressed,’ the officer added.
Jain was undergoing medication for depression.
He was last seen by his wife Sudha and daughter around 10 p.m. In the morning, Sudha found Jain lying in a pool of blood and informed police.
Jain was teaching at St. Stephen’s for the past 30 years and was to retire soon.
