Soumitra Chattopadhyay says people’s love is greatest award

Soumitra ChattopadhyayKolkata, May 18 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee on Thursday said people’s love is the greatest award he has ever received.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a session on Celebrating Excellence here on Thursday to honour and felicitate Chatterjee, the recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2011, for his lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.

An array of dignitaries from various walks of life graced the felicitation.

Many shared slices of their experiences about the living legend.

While historian Bharti Devi threw light on Chatterjee’s college days at the university, actor Dhritiman Chatterji termed him as the most accessible and approachable hero of all times without any starry tantrums.

Actor Chuni Goswami saluted the fighting spirit of Chatterjee, while veteran footballer P.K. Banerjee shared several anecdotes on their long friendship of 55 years revealing the thespian as a very good sportsman in his younger days possessing a strong sportsmanship spirit.

Theatre personality and actor Koushik Sen threw light on the passion Chatterjee holds for theatre.

An elated Chatterjee thanked everyone for the appreciation.

He said he considers the love affection and appreciation of the people the most greatest award of his life.

“The love and affection of the people is the greatest award I have ever received,” said Chatterjee.

The session ended with his recitation of the famous lines of the poem by Michael Madhusudan Dutt “Jonmile Ke Morite Chae”.

A short film projecting masterpieces by Chatterjee was also showcased followed by the felicitation.
