New Delhi, July 14 (Calcutta Tube) Six members of a family were killed when their house in northeast Delhi collapsed Wednesday, they day they had ironically planned to shift out as the structure had been damaged in heavy rains.
The three-storied building in Brahmpuri area had been in a bad shape after Monday’s heavy rains. According to the neighbours, the family had noticed some cracks in the wall and was planning to shift out Wednesday.
An elderly women, her three sons and two daughters-in-law were those who died in the accident at 4 a.m., a police official said.
‘The bodies of all the victims have been recovered by rescue operators during the clearance of debris,’ he added.
A hotel was being run on the building’s ground floor while the family stayed on the other two floors.
Municipal Commissioner K.S. Mehra said a special team of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has started physical survey of the damaged buildings and evacuation notices will be given to houses if necessary.
On Monday, the city witnessed 51.6 mm of rains which led to flooding of streets and traffic jams in many parts of the national capital, including some damages to the roof of a Commonwealth Games venue.
