Mumbai May 17 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Bollywood superstar and owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Kanight Riders (KKR) Shah Rukh Khan, who got engaged in a scuffle with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) personnel on Wednesday, clarified on Thursday he was not ‘drunk’.
“I was not drunk. It is fashionable to say oh he was drunk, oh he was aggressive. I do not drink except socially. I came from home, ” Khan told reporters.
Khan hit back at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials over Wednesday night’s brawl and said he became aggressive only when they ‘manhandled’ the children under his responsibility at the stadium and ‘misbehaved’ with him.
“I just came to pick my children. I got angry when I saw they (security person) manhandled the children.” Khan said.
“It was completely correct on my part to let them know that they cannot push people, little girls,” Khan said.
“They were equally rude and should look at their own behaviour,” he said.
Hitting back at the officials, Khan said: “I completely disagree with them. I will do the same thing if anyone try to manhandle my children or children whose responsibility I have taken to go to the match. ”
Khan clarified that he abused only after a security person abused him.
“When this gentleman abused me then only I abused him back. When they were aggressive, I became aggressive,” Khan said.
Khan said he was abused in ‘Marathi’ and what the man told him is not repeatable and then he asked the abuser to speak in Hindi.
Khan said: “They were controllers of an association and they should behave better.”
“They were all very aggressive. They came down, 30 of them,” he said.
He said reports mentioning him abusing some girls was wrong.
Khan said, “I hear stories that I am abusive to some girls, nothing like that happened. I have sportsman spirit.”
“I meet my fans regularly. I never misbehave with anybody. Even if my team loses I shake hands with everyone, “Khan said.
The incident dragged controversies on Thursday as reports said MCA has already banned him in the stadium pending a final inquiry into the brawl which officials blamed on the Bollywood actor and claimed that he was drunk.
Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Iqbal Sheikh, also a senior member of MCA said Thursday that Khan was in a drunken state Wednesday night when he got involved in a late Wednesday night brawl at the Wankhede Stadium here.
“Shah Rukh was drunk. He was smelling of alcohol but he was not drinking at the Wankhede stadium. But it is not an offence. He was also abusing and threatening the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) officials,” said Sheikh.
Sheikh, who was present at the Wankhede on match duty, had to intervene to prevent the incident from turning ugly.
Sheikh, who is also member of the MCA managing committee, said: “I took him out and separated him because the incident was turning ugly. While being taken away he was showering abuses on MCA and BCCI officials. We are investigating the matter.”
Asked if Shah Rukh was provoked by MCA officials, Sheikh said: “We are not concerned about the provocation. We are only concerned about the act.”
MCA treasurer Ravi Sawant said Shah Rukh misbehaved and abused the MCA security personnel as well as MCA officials, including president Vilasrao Deshmukh, after the IPL match (between KKR and Mumbai Indians).
“We have decided to ban him for life from entering the stadium in future. He was dead drunk, our security tried to stop him but he pushed him and abused in such filthy language that I cannot use it here. Our officials tried to pacify him but he started abusing them, he abused MCA, BCCI and used the ‘f’ word and said whatever you want to do you do it,” Sawant added.
Shah Rukh got into a brawl with MCA and BCCI officials after his team defeated Mumbai Indians in an IPL match Wednesday night.
