SAIL’s Bhilai unit records best ever Q-1 output

Raipur, July 2 (IANS) Bhilai Steel Plant, the highest profit-making unit of India’s largest steel maker in the public sector, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), has recorded the best ever first quarter (April-June) output, the plant said Friday.

‘The plant recorded the best ever hot metal production of 1.39 million tonne (MT) in first quarter in fiscal year 2010-11 as against previous best of 1.27 MT in 2009-10,’ BSP said in a statement.

The plant is located in Bhilai, some 30 km west of Chhattisgarh capital Raipur.

It added the plant has also recorded its best ever crude steel production of 1.31 MT in the first quarter as against previous best of 1.25 MT in 2006-07.

The Plant has made the best ever Q-1 saleable steel production and loading figures of 1.137 MT and 1.11 MT respectively, as against previous best of 1.09 MT and 1.06 MT, respectively in Q-1 of 2006-07.

  1. Steel is a core sector it has to play a major role if the economy has to achieve double digit GDP.
    SAIL is one of the most profitable Steel conglomerate in the world.
    The world economy is surely a concern but will not affect SAIL to that extent compared to Tata Steel which has a corus plant in Europe.
    Once the results of first quarter gets anounced any time in next few weeks, SAIL will reach level what it deserves.
