Sahara Calcutta Football League: Peerless SC defeat Chirag United

Kolkata, Oct 12, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): Chirag United’s attempt to be amongst the top three for the tournament received a jolt when they lost to a resurgent Peerless SC 1-2 at the Sahara Calcutta Football League’s Premier division play at Yuva Bharati Krirangan here on Tuesday.

Earlier East Bengal ousted George Telegraph 3-1 at the same venue to maintain the pole position with 24 points from eight games. Whilst Budhiram Tudu, Sushant Mathew and Orji Penn netted for gold and yellow, the reducer for George Telegraph came from Dipak Doloi.

Chirag United, who drew 1-1 against Techno Aryans in the previous game, equalised from a penalty shot from Joshimar da Silva Martins in the 42nd minute after Peerless striker Samson headed home a free kick from Prasanta Chakraborty on the thirty-second minute.

But just as the rivals were looking for the referee’s final signal for the end of play, Peerless’ midfielder Daniel Dhuksha slotted home a pass from substitute Benjamin to shatter Subrata Bhattacharjee’s hope to fight for the first three slots in the 17-team marathon competition.

Sanjay Sen is new coach for CU after Bhattacharjee was elevated as technical director.
