Sahara Calcutta Football League (CFL): Mohun Bagan beat Port Trust

Kolkata, Nov 21, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Twenty-nine times winners  Mohun Bagan kept their title chase alive with 3-0 win over Kolkata Port Trust maintaining their ninth straight victory at Sahara Calcutta Football League (CFL) for premier division at home ground here on Friday.

After surviving an early attempt, Bagan’s veteran Jose Ramirez Barreto opened the scoring in the first half and Kingshuk Debnath and Subair Muritala Ali kept tempo to strech 3-0 win at end of play.

Kingshuk Debnath, who set Mohun Bagan’s first goal via Jose Ramirez Baretto just before half time, headed home in the 74th minute and Subair Muritala Ali slotted home in the 90th minute to lead scoring list with 16 goals in this edition.

The win pushed Mohun Bagan to 34 points from 13 games, two behind from East Bengal who have one match in hand. Mohun Bagan continued to trail by five points to their arch rivals after a defeat and a draw.

Mercurial Jose Ramirez Barreto leaped high to flick home from Kingshuk Debnath’s floater minutes before half-time to lead Bagan, who survived early after KoPT’s Ashim Das grounder hit the far post.

This was Barreto’s 7th goal in this edition. The goal opened the floodgate as the rivals successfully prevented the mariners from scoring easily.

Barreto following a move of Debnath in the right flank leaped high to toe the ball when the a floater came to him amids opposition from the opponents.

Kingshuk Debnath, who was adjudged man of the match, headed home a right flank corner from Satish Kumnar in the 74th minute and Nigerian Subair Muritala Ali buttressed the tally at the end after being fed by Souvik Chakraborty, who substituted Barreto in second half.
