April 13, 2010 (Calcutta Tube): TV actress Reena Kapoor, the quintessential protagonist of Sahara One’s TV show Woh Rehne Wali Mehlo Ki is set to tie the knot for a record sixth time.
(Pardon for using the word record but after scratching our brains, we couldn’t come up with any actor who has had such privilege.)
Kapoor, who is currently playing the third generation Rani, is set to marry Sameer Sharma, who coincidently is also named Rishabh, Rani’s last and deceased husband.
Reena says, “I’m marrying for the sixth time. However, it’s not one character who is marrying for the sixth time. The six marriages have taken place across three generations.”
Recalling the correct flow chart she adds, “When the show started Rani married Raj, played by Arjun Punj. Raj dies and then Rani is married to his doppelganger Prince, played by Punj again. Pari, daughter of the double widow Rani is married to Saumya (Aamir Ali), who dies and then it’s Manav (Vinay Jain) who married the widow Pari. Pari’s adopted daughter Rani is married to Rishabh (Karan Grover). As always, this husband too dies and the grand daughter of the original Rani is now married to another Rishabh (no look-alike), played by Sameer Sharma.”
Uff! It’s a long list but one thing common is dying husbands. Now is Rani/Pari a manglik wherein all men in her life are destined to die?
(Laughs) “Apparently, a few of my co-artists were joking about the same. At times, I do pinch myself and wonder is this really me who is getting married multiple times? Well, guess that’s a TV soap for you. Though, I’ve been the constant face on the show but every new marriage feels like a new show, a change in system.”
What’s new about this marriage? How old is Rani? She replies, “Sameer is also named Rishabh. Tauji (Ali Raza Namdar) is of the view that Rishabh is perfect for me. Later on, it will be revealed that Rishabh has some connection with my past. May be that’s why I agree to marry him. Rani is often shown to be in her late 20s” (Reena herself is 30 plus, so we understand when she says late 20s.)
Finally, will the buck stop with Rishabh or will there be another death, a birth of a new generation and yet another marriage?
“No, I hope this is the last. Another marriage will simply look silly,” Kapoor sighed.
Note: Neha Janpandit played the third generation Rani but she was replaced by Reena Kapoor)
