May 10 (Calcutta Tube): Raveena Tandon has landed one of the most challenging women characters created by Rabindrandath Tagore. The character is that of Sohini in Tagore’s story Laboratory. The film, directed by Raja Sen, features Raveena as the controversial Sohini, a courageous woman of Sikh-Punjabi descent who got married to a Bengali scientist much senior to her, who brings her to Bengal. “I chose Raveena not only because she would suit the Sikh-Punjabi girl who becomes Bengali by marriage and adoption, after I saw her performance in slightly off-beat films like Shool and Satta and she has done a wonderful job, sans starry airs or ego hassles of any kind.” Sabyasachi Chakraborty plays her husband who dies suddenly and she takes it up as her life’s commitment to continue his research. Arpita Chatterjee plays her daughter and Saheb Chatterjee plays Arpita’s suitor. Ranjit Mullick plays Sohini’s husband’s friend who she has a relationship with.
