Raj Chakraborty about Prem Amar (2009)
Film director Raj Chakrabarty talks to Calcutta Tube in between his shooting for his upcoming film ‘Prem Amar’ from the outdoors of St.Xaviers college. The Payel-Soham starrer film will be releases in September, 2009 around Durga Puja.
Calcutta Tube: When will be ‘Prem Amar’ released?
Raj Chakrabarty: ‘Prem Amar‘ will be released on 18th September, 2009, prior to the Durga Puja.
Calcutta Tube: Please tell us something about the story of ‘Prem Amar’.
Raj Chakrabarty: ‘Prem Amar’ is a passionate love story. The treatment of the film is going to be different than the other films I have made. It has a different way of story telling. I am trying to present a mass-level story in a rather ‘class’ way.
Calcutta Tube: You work with different new comers and freshmen in your movies. You do not stick to any particular crew for your films. Why is that?.
Raj Chakrabarty: I like to work that way. When I decide on a story or a theme, I cast the actors that I think would go the best with the characters. And I think that the freshmen can do a great job, since they give it their best try to prove themselves. That adds another dimnesion to the film.
Soham and Payel have worked in other movies before. But the film ‘Prem Amar’ is certainly more important to them in quite a few aspects. Their previous movies have not brought them much fame. But this movie is going to prove their acting abilities than ever before. I do not pay much attention to what works we all have done earlier, and have asked them not to think that way too. We are all working hard as debutantes to bring out our best. I imagine myself and the others as freshmen who have to proceed forward with the ulitimate goal of making our next film better than the previous one. We put our hearts and souls in our work – that is the only way to prove our abilities. Payel, Soham and all the other actors and actresses I have worked with are simply great. I am so proud of all of them.
Calcutta Tube: Do you have any shootings in abroad for the film?
Raj Chakrabarty: We are not going abroad for this film. We are planning to shoot one scene in Ladakh, however.
Calcutta Tube: Who is the music directior of ‘Prem Amar’?
Raj Chakrabarty: The music is by Jeet Ganguly, and the film is produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.
Calcutta Tube: What is the budget of the film?
Raj Chakrabarty: It is a no-budget film. We are going to do take care of all the things the film needs, and sum the expenses up. We would not going to waste resources, of course. But at the same time, we would not compromise, either. We are moderate and generous about the finances for this film.
Calcutta Tube: Has the global recession affected the Tollywood film industry?
Raj Chakrabarty: Not that I know of. Surprisingly, Tollywood is having a boom as never before. We are having quite a few big budget films being made here in the Bengali film industry.
