Calcutta Tube: Jodi Ekdin is going to be released in North America. The film is going to get an international exposure. How do you feel about it?
Priyanka Sarkar: I am definitely very excited as I am going to reach out to more and more audience. Film making is very much of a collaborative effort. So, it is a rewarding experience for all of us. Our hard work is being paid off. I feel happy for myself and for the industry too. This is a very important step for the Bengali cinema. We will now be able to get the reaction of the international audience too. This will definitely inspire filmmakers here to make movies on various subjects and try newer genres. Once this trend is set, things will even become more smooth and easy with time.
Calcutta Tube: What is the best thing is you like about your role in Jodi Ekdin?
Priyanka Sarkar: When I was working with Riingo in his previous movie Risk, he told me that he had thought of casting me in his next film. I readily agreed to it, since I did not have any reason for not working with him. Later, when I read the script of Jodi Ekdin, I loved it. The characters were brilliant; any actor love to portray them. The film has a different kind of a story with very few characters, and the story takes place in a day’s period.
Riingo has his own style of working and is a lot of fun to work with. There are so many things that I get to learn when I am around him. I am very much satisfied with the film- the way it has come out. We also had a great time at the shoots. Riingo is a wonderful teacher. He looks into every detail of his film. I am optimistic about the film.
Calcutta Tube: How was it different working in Jodi Ekdin from Risk?
Priyanka Sarkar: Jodi Ekdin had a very hectic schedule. We had to shoot the film in a very short time which required very hard work. I played a smaller role in Risk and it was a funny one.
Calcutta Tube: Are there any scenes that you would like to retake or do differently if given a second chance?
Priyanka Sarkar: Not really. We have all worked sincerely in the film and I have done the best I possibly could.
Calcutta Tube: How did you like working with co-actor Indraneil Sengupta in Jodi Ekdin?
Priyanka Sarkar: Indraneil is a very nice person. I throughly enjoyed working with him and now we are very good friends. He is extremely sincere and disciplined. He would get up early in the morning, work out regularly and be on the sets in time. He surprised me, as I am the kind of person who always wants to get a few extra hours of sleep. It was quite an experience to know him. He is very much conscious about health and fitness.
Calcutta Tube: What other films are you working in right now?
Priyanka Sarkar: Some of my current projects are Anup Sengupta’s Raj Nandini, Jagannath Guha’s Bor Bou Khela, and Bappaditya Bandopadhyay’s Kagojer Bou. There are some more movies which are in initial stages, we have not started working on them yet.
Calcutta Tube: Please say something for your fans.
Priyanka Sarkar: I would sincerely request them to go to the movie theaters which is extremely important to keep the industry going. Regarding Jodi Ekdin, I would say that we all have worked hard to make the movie. Please watch the movie at the theaters and let others know how you all like the film. The music of Jodi Ekdin is available. Please listen to the songs.
I sincerely thank Anindya, Chandril for their lyrics.
