Kolkata, Oct 30, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) PepsiCo India, leading food & beverage company, celebrated Durga Puja by launching a campaign aimed at building and spreading awareness about the anathema of HIV/AIDS at the Deshapriya Park Puja pandal ground in South Kolkata.
PepsiCo has been imparting HIV/AIDS awareness since 2005 in India and was the recipient of the President’s Corporate Award for Business Response to HIV/AIDS in 2008.
The initiative is being organised in collaboration with West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society (WBSAPCS) and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) at Deshapriya Park Puja pandal ground in South Kolkata.
Speaking at the commencement of the initiative said Partha Gangopadhyay-VP Plant Operations, PepsiCo India, said, “It is through such interventions that we strive to sensitize the society to reduce the stigma & discrimination against those who are HIV positive. We ensure access to information & other services that can help in reducing the spread of HIV.”
The main objective of this initiative is to generate mass awareness on HIV/AIDS and Stigma-Discrimination attached to it.
The event will run from Sasthi to Nabami and will see myriad events including sessions like Spot Quiz on basics of HIV/AIDS, Talking Doll show featuring causes, prevention and stigma attached with HIV/AIDS, distribution of leaflets and red ribbons, signature campaign wherein visitors would be encouraged to write down their commitment towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS and sign on a canvas displayed in the stall.
PepsiCo India is also putting together an audio visual show that will be conveying messages on HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention, stigma & discrimination to create awareness in the society.
Apart from PepsiCo, there will be special HIV positive volunteers who will be conducting these events and leading the awareness journey together.
