The super mini car Opel Corsa was launched in 1983. It is now sold in parts of America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The hybrid version of the car is now launched in India is named as the Vauxhall Corsa. There are two types namely GSi and 1.6 GLS.
The car is very spacious, with beautiful interiors and an engine that is very comfortable to drive on the Indian Roads. It has bagged the title as India’s millennium car with its launch in three continents namely Asia, Africa, and South America.
The interiors of the car are designed in light brown and black. The seats are made of leather. There is a display of the outside temperature, date and time on the triple information system. The immense grip of the steering comes from the leather wrap. The pedals are made of aluminum. Corsa lacks a music system which is a shortcoming in a stylish car.
It has a fully powered engine of 75Hp (55 kW), 66 kW (90 HP) and 92 Kw in the diesel model whereas the petrol model has a power of 88PS @ 6000 and torque 110 Nm @ 3200. The other value additions in the car are the central locking, air condition, trunk opening and remote fuel.
The attachments are all made of easy to use and quality accessories. The switches and controls are made of new design. The 4 cylinder engine has a capacity of 1389 cc. The car is specifically designed for the average India with a length of 4056mm, width of 1608 and height of 1420mm. It does not suit those of tall and heavy stature.
The other extra facility in the car is the optional heated steering which helps to warm your hands when the climate becomes very cold. The gears, clutches and other amenities are designed in an easy to reach style. Steering the car in crowded areas can be a problem as it is not designed for heavy curves.
The engineering of the car is chrome tipped exhaust and 14 inch wheel. The radiator grill is combined with a chromium blade which makes it easy for the rider. The brakes are ABS with Cornering Brake Control (CBC), the brake assist included. There is a progressive variable steering and optional interactive driving system. The chassis is designed for quick and safe driving. It has an ESP Plus or Electronic Stability Program with added EUC or Enhanced Under Steering Control.
Though Opel Corsa is designed as a luxury car there are some disadvantages that need to be looked into. As seen earlier it is not good for heavy curves. The height of the car ground is very less when compared to the speed breakers on the Indian roads, it may hit the silencer at the bottom of the car. Its design is not suited for hefty people with tall stature. The clutch and accelerator are closely placed.
The Corsa is priced at 4.8 to 5.5 lakhs INR. It is a good car for an Indian who wants a luxury car to ride on the Indian Roads.
