Oney Seal, the CEO and the owner of Databazaar Media Ventures, ‘The Gateway of Bengali films in North America’ says that the Bengali associations in North America have taken a very big part in promotions of Bengali films.
“The DurgaBari Houston and the Tagore Society of Houston have jointly come together to promote ‘The Japanese Wife’. They have signed up all the way up to October with a screening every month. Similarly Probasi and Poschimi of the Bay Area and Northern California too have joined hands for promoting our films. Then the Bengali Association of Southern California which is around Los Angeles has also signed up with us. The association from Atlanta has also signed up their first film. So now we are in connection with quite a few US metropolitan cities.
“It is a really good start. This has never happened before with Bengali films, not at a scale this big. The model has been accepted in a very much organized way. It is more than I had expected. People have embraced our initiatives so much,” Oney sounds excited.
The other great news from DMV is that Netflix has ordered Aparna Sen’s ‘The Japanese Wife‘. The Netflix members can now add the Rahul Bose starrer film in their queue, which should be ready to be shipped from July 20.
DMV’s upcoming venture is Raja Sen’s Bengali movie ‘Laboratory’. The movie starring Arpita Chatterjee, Raveena Tandon is expecting a big release. The Tagore Societies of different countries including the one in Houston are all very much excited about the release of this period film based on Rabindranath Tagore’s story. The film is in post production stages and is supposed to be complete by mid July.
“The film is going to happen in a big way. DMV has already signed for the film. We are trying to start the US screening of ‘Laboratory’ in the end of September. The director, along with some members of the cast, will be present during the promotions of the film,” concludes Oney.
