Feb 3, 2010 (Calcutta Tube): While a lot is being said about AR Rahman’s Grammy win, everyone seems to have conveniently forgotten that even lyricist and poet Gulzar won a Grammy; it was even announced at the awards ceremony.
However, Gulzar doesn’t know where his Grammy is. Both he and Rahman were told that they would be receiving Grammys but since Gulzar wasn’t in Los Angeles to receive it, he doesn’t know where it is and how it will come to him.
When the duo won at the Oscars, Rahman had tried collecting the Oscar on Gulzar’s behalf but he wasn’t allowed to take it, unlike Indian awards where crew members can receive it on behalf of the winner, in case the winner is absent. The Oscar was couriered to Gulzar and he hopes he gets his Grammy that way too.
What’s odd is that while the media has hyped up Rahman’s win at the Grammys, no one is talking about Gulzar’s win at all. Gulzar has no qualms with that though as he thinks that Rahman is now the ambassador of Indian music and everyone should be happy with that.
