Lucknow, Feb 18 (Calcutta Tube) The Uttar Pradesh government Thursday denied any lapse in the security provided to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh during their visit to a dargah in Barielly Feb 11.
‘After cross-checking at every end, we have arrived at the conclusion that both the Delhi chief minister and the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister were provided full security cover to which they were entitled and adequate arrangements were made by the local district administration for their visit to the dargah of Ala Hazrat in Barielly,’ state Principal Home Secretary Fateh Bahadur told a press conference here Thursday evening.
He said: ‘The administration had taken care to facilitate their visit through the narrow lanes and bylanes leading to the dargah and even provided immediate first aid to former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh when he hurt his toe on account of walking barefoot.’
He claimed that both the leaders were ushered into someone’s private residence en route, when the crowds became unmanageable.
‘The administration also took care to provide necessary escorts and to clear the passage when at the eleventh hour, they expressed their desire to visit the residence of the Sajjada Nashin of the Dargah Subhan Raza Khan,’ he added.
The principal home secretary denied any police highhandedness during the demonstration by the Congress women activists in Lucknow earlier this week.
