Murder on the Orint Express (1974)

Five years later the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, boards the famous Orient Express from the Asian side of Istanbul headed towards northern Europe. A co-passenger named Mr. Ratchett tries to appoint him for his security as he has been recently been receiving lots of threating letters. Poirot refuses his lump some offer but to his amazement, Mr Rachett gets killed that night. Evidence from his room points to the fact that Mr. Rachett is a criminal named Cassetti who has been an accomplice in the Armstrong case five years back. Casetti has been doped and stabbed twelve times. Poirot is requested to investigate the case. It turns out that each of the other twelve passengers in the compartment has been related the Armstrong family in some way and together participated in an spectacular revenge. But to our utter surprise, Poirot represents the report of his investigation to the police not as the way he finds out but according to the way it was plotted to distract the investigator. The good hearted detective lets the killers go free on human grounds.

As an admirer of the famous detective Hercule Poirot, I have watched all movies in the Hercule Poirot series done by David Suchett. I personally feel that David Suchett did a better job playing Hercule Poirot than Albert Finney. Finney resembled a lot like David Suchett in looks and physical gestures but lacked the softness and humor that David Suchett had. All throughout the movie the audience will enjoy the elegance of the sets which has mostly been shot inside of a train compartment, the snow-white country where the train gets stranded, the minute details that every detective story should have. The best part is the ending where the viewers sympathize with the killers, and not with the victim and feels a sense of relief when the conspirators are set free.

The James Bond famous Sean Connery played a small but important role in this movie.
