Mousumi Chatterjee – Birthday Girl
Mousumi Chatterjee, the Bengali actress who ruled the Bollywood and Tollywood Movie industry for a long time is celebrating her birthday today on April 26th, 2009. Let’s wish Happy Birth Day to one of the sweetest girl from Bengal. Mousumi Chatterjee started her film career with a Bengali Film “Balika Badhu (1967)” directed by Tarun Majumdar. After than she acted in some other Bengali Movies and then settle in Bollywood for Hindi movies. Her debut Hindi film was “Anuraag” in 1973 directed by Shakti Samanta. She played a blind girl who falls in love, and her performance earned her a Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. “Roti, Kapada, Aur Mahaan” (1974) was another huge hit where she was brutally raped in the movie. The rape scenes in Roti Kapda, Aur Makan are still considered to be some of the most disturbing shoot in Hindi Cinema.
She has worked with Tarun Majumdar, Ajay Kar, Kanak Mishra, Raj Kholsa, Basu Chatterjee and many more. She has done both entertaining and parallel cinema throughout her career. She has also worked opposite to Amitabh Bachchan in “Manzil Manzil”, “Benam” etc.
The Bengali’s will always remember Mousumi Chatterjee for her role in Ogo Badhu Sundari with Ranjit Mullick and Uttam Kumar. The movie is one of the best Bengali comedy film ever made in Tollywood Kolkata.
Mousumi is a great comedian and the movie Angoor (1982) directed by Gulzar is one of her best films ever with Sanjeev Kumar. In Tollywood, she was last seen in Natur Guru (2003) directed by Haranath Chakraborty which became a huge hit starring Jeet and Koel Mullick.
Mousumi Chatterjee married producer Jayanta Mukherjee, the son of legendary musician and singer Hemant Kumar. The couple are blessed with two daughters -Payel and Megha.
