Mohun Bagan beat Eastern Railway 1-0 in Kolkata league

Kolkata, Oct. 24, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Champions Mohun Bagan scraped through lowly rated Eastern Railway by a solitary second half goal scored towards the fag end of the match in the Sahara Kolkata Premier Football League at their home ground here Sunday.

The all important goal that enabled Bagan to earn full points was netted by Sohrabuddin  during injury time.

When everybody thought the match would end goalless,  the green and maroon finally managed to put one through as Sohrabuddin  beautifully headed home a  swerving  flag kick taken by Jayanta Sen in the  91st minute ( 1-0).

With this victory Mohun Bagan have so far earned 16 points from seven matches while  Eastern Railway  remained  at the same spot with four points from 11 outings. East Bengal  are now leading the league table with 30 points from 11 plays.

Eastern Railway  put up a stubborn defence that kept the Bagan front liners at bay till the last minute. Their defenders, specially Babun Kar and Santanu,  kept a strict vigil on  strikers Chiddi and made him inoperative.

Railway custodian Biswanath  Sengupta also  dished out a  fine show  to thwart most of Bagan attacks.

Biswanath was rightly chosen ‘Man of the Match’.
