Siliguri (West Bengal), Dec 5, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): The 32-year-old son of North Bengal Medical College & Hospital’s superintendent was arrested on Thursday for allegedly duping a medical student into paying Rs 17 lakh for the promise of admission in a reputed college.
The Police said it arrested Sumanta Gupta, son of the medical facility’s superintendent Subal Gupta for cheating the student from Assam.
Sleuths from Kolkata Police raided Sumanta’s posh house at Uttarayan in nothern Siliguri and picked him up following an Alipore Court order on Nov 26.
Nagma Khan of Guwahati had lodged an First Information Report (FIR) with Lake Police station in Kolkata on Oct 24 alleging Sumanta Gupta cheated her Rs 17 lakh promising admission to a reputed medical college.
Kolkata police after preliminary investigation moved to the Alipore Court, which issued arrest warrant on Nov 26, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court’s assistant public prosecutor Ranjit Saha said. The accused was produced before the CJMC, which would grant transit remand in Kolkata.
