Kolkata, Oct 26, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): Premiere football club of the city Mohammedan Sporting Club will host a knock out four-team tournament to mark the celebration of their platinum jubilee year of victory over Dalhousie club in 1934 to lift the Calcutta Football League.
The name of the tournament is “Maohammedan Sporting Platinum Jubilee Cup”.
“We are extremely happy to be able to present this PJC,” said Sultan Ahmed, club President and Union Minister of State for Tourism.
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will be the brand ambassador for this cup and will also don the black and white jersey of the club.
Apart from the three iconic clubs of Kolkata,East Bngal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting Club, the Yorkshire based ‘Sheffield Football Club’. the first football club of the world, has also agreed to come to Kolkata and participate in the tournament.
“We are thankful to IFA and the Management of city giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan for spontaneously supporting the celebration of our club. Hope it marks a new beginning for EMTA Mohammedan Sporting that has been one of the foremost clubs with which Indian football is associated,” Sultan Ahmed said.
“We are extremely thankful to the Sheffield FC for finding time to come down to Kolkata to be a part of the historical moment,” Jameel Manzar, club General Secretary said.
The tournament will be played in a knock-out format in which two teams will play aginst each other and the winners will play the final at the Salt Lake Stadium, where all the matches will be played on Nov 12 and 14.
Sheffield FC will arrive in Kolkata on November ten.
