Manmohan Singh: No dialogue if Pakistan backs terrorism

New Delhi, Aug 21 (Calcutta Tube) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared Sunday there will be no further talks with Pakistan if its territory was used for acts of terrorism against India.

‘As far as Pakistan is concerned, we expect from them that they would not let their territory be used for acts of terrorism against India,’ he said in his Independence Day speech.

‘We have been emphasizing this in all our discussions with the Pakistan government. If this is not done, we cannot progress far in our dialogue with Pakistan,’ he added.

He stressed that India wants ‘prosperity, peace and harmony in our neighbouring countries.’

‘Whatever differences we have with our neighbouring countries, we want to resolve them through discussions,’ he said.

The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan met in Islamabad in July but the talks ended amid acrimony.
