Mumbai, July 7 (Calcutta Tube) A 33-year-old man clobbered his alcoholic father to death with a grinding stone following a quarrel and walked into a police station to surrender, officials said here Wednesday.
The incident happened in the wee hours of Wednesday after the victim, who was unemployed and had a severe drinking problem since years, fought with family members demanding money to buy alcohol.
‘The accused, Ravi Kumar, had a fight with his father Ramalingam, 57, over his drinking problem,’ Senior Police Inspector S.B. Gaikwad of Vikhroli Police Station told IANS.
‘Ramalingam suffered from a drinking problem since the last 16 years and this was the reason he had lost his job with the Mumbai Port Trust,’ Gaikwad said.
When Ramalingam was refused money by family members, he picked up a table fan and tried to hit Ravi Kumar’s 11-month-old daughter with it.
‘He was drunk and didn’t know what he was doing. This scared Ravi Kumar and he stopped Ramalingam,’ Gaikwad said.
‘An enraged Ramalingam then tried to hit Ravi Kumar with a big grinding stone lying nearby. Ravi Kumar resisted and hit his father on his head with the same stone and left home,’ Gaikwad added.
When Ravi Kumar, who works as a cleaner at a port in Panvel, found his father dead, he surrendered before the police.
