March 21 (Calcutta Tube): ‘Maa’ is a short film (in Bengali) which attempts to promote communal harmony. It is a story of a Hindu- Muslim riot stricken day where a Hindu rioter and a Muslim rioter chased by respective communal mobs take shelter inside a garbage bin. Despite the fact that they had run for their lives their deep rooted communal hatred does not give away as they pounce upon each other inside the garbage bin. An old lady who too was there hiding stops them from killing each other telling them that they were brothers not enemies. The guys addressing the old lady as ‘mother’ are not convinced. But they are silenced when the old lady says…if I am mother to you both then you ought to be brothers.

The film is an effort to make us realize the damage communal war has done to the country and make us believe that religion is a path of love and love alone.
