Kolkata, Feb 22 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): A language martrys’ memorial was inaugurated by the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday here in Kolkata at Deshapriya Park in the presence of several literary personalities.
Veteran dancer Amala Shankar, singer Arati Mukherjee, Indrani Sen, Anup Ghosal, Saikat Mitra, Nirmala Mishra, Dijen Mukherjee, writer Shishendu Mukherjee were present at the inauguration ceremony of the “Bhasa Smritistambha”.
Feb 21 is regarded as the “Bhasa Dibosh” (Language Day) worldwide and the programme was organised by “Pashchimbango Sanskritik Mancha” under the guidance of Subhaprasanna, the renowned painter, a day ahead.
Other than prominent personalities from cultural field, Mayor of Kolkata, Sovan Chatterjee and other political leaders of the city were also present.
The programme was initiated by Subhaprasanna, followed by a cultural programme.
