Kolkata’s Shoppers Stop celebrates Christmas with elderly

Kolkata, Dec 23 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Shoppers Stop, leading retail departmental store chain brand, celebrated Christmas with senior citizens of Kolkata at St. Joseph’s Old Age Home on Wednesday.

The store’s employees got together to hold a  Christmas programme for the seniors citizens at the home.

The celebration began with Santa Claus greeting the elders and distributing toffees to all of them.

It was followed by songs, dances and skit performance by the retail brand employees.

The senior citizens looked overwhelmed by the performances as they clapped enthusiastically.

Some of the senior citizens from the audience sang  Christmas carols.

Naveen Misra, Customer Care Associate and Area Controller, East, Shoppers Stop said, “We do this just to get their blessings. We give them little gifts, talk with them and try to give them little happiness.”

The inmates of the home were emotional too.

“We feel Christmas everyday owing to the love and care we get from our sisters. I do miss my family very much but the love  here makes me forget that. I am at peace here,” said Mary Pinto, one of the senior citizens of the Home who has been staying there for 11 years.

The celebration ended with a cake cutting ceremony and gift distribution as the inmates received some surprise goodies.
