Kolkata woman raped at gunpoint
Kolkata, Feb 15 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) A woman from the Anglo Indian community in Kolkata on Wednesday alleged that she was raped at gunpoint in a moving car earlier this month after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street during night.
The incident occurred on Feb 4-5 night and the girl lodged complaint on Feb 9 in the Park Street Police Station.
The girl and her family alleged that the Park Street police station did not cooperate with the victim and instead made indecent proposals to them.
The girl alleged that the assailants were Sharafat Ali, Azhar Ali, Lubi Gidwani and Salman (driver) while among them Sharafat Ali is the one who raped her while others held her and showed her firearms, police said.
After the assault she was thrown from the car at a central point (Exide interaction) in the city, the woman alleged.
Kolkata Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Damayanti Sen said on the night of Feb 4-5 when the woman had gone to Tantra night club and there she was befriended by one Lubi Gidwani.
The girl alleged that the vehicle belonged to Gidwani.
“She was traumatized and on Feb 9 she lodged a complaint. She was raped at gunpoint according to her,” said Sen.
“Her complaint was recorded as rape on the show of arms,” she said.
Sen said the father of Lubi Gidwani said his son is in Canada since January this year.
“We are trying to verify that,” Sen said.
Sen said the girl will undergo forensic test but it was delayed in the absence of the experts at the Medical College where she was referred.
