Kolkata, Feb 12 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Rabindra Sadan auditorium here came alive with the soulful strains of Baul music this Friday as the city hosted “Sahajiya Utsav” to raise funds for the folk artists battling financial crunch.
Folk maestro, Paban Das Baul, performed at the utsav organized by the Sahajiya Foundation, spearheaded by folk singer Dev Chowdhury, who also performed.
Paban Das Baul is the baul singer who took the famous genre of Bengal to the international music connoisseurs.
Paban Baul said at the show, “ Kolkata is my heart and this place has taught me lot of things and still I am learning. Whatever I have leant I try to spread it throughout the world.”
There was also a live performance of Sahajiya – world music presentations of Bengali folk songs and along with it live painting by internationally reputed artist, Hiran Mitra.
Director of Rabindrasadan, Meghnath Dey, director of Nandan, Jadav Mondal and Ex-director of Culture, Somnath Mukhopadhay were also present at the occasion
Sahajiya is working for the promotion and exploration of Bengali Folk Music in the world music arena.
Sahajiya is organizing Pension Grant of Rs 4000 per month for the veteran folk artists of Bengal in indigent circumstances.
The “Sahajiya Utsav” was organized to raise funds for them.
