Kolkata, Sept 9 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Columbia Asia Hospital have been organizing a First Aid & BLS Workshop and basic health check-up for the Kolkata Police (KP) Traffic Department for every Wednesday for the past one month in its endeavor to make basic healthcare accessible to all.
Every week, a batch of 40 traffic personnel of Kolkata Police are invited to Columbia Asia Hospital in Salt Lake area of the city for a complimentary health check up followed by a workshop where they are taught the minimum standards of first aid in case of any emergency.
The efficacy of such training would enable the police in saving lives in emergencies. In most of the developed countries, the police force is trained in Basic Life Support and First Aid.
The complimentary health check up plan starts with checking the body weight and height of each personnel and goes on to checking the blood pressure, sugar level and ends with an ECG and Pulmonary test, at the end of which a Certificate of Health is given to them.
ICU In-charge Dipankar Sarkar takes them through the workshop where they are taught BLS of Basic Life Support in case of any emergency.
Columbia Asia Hospital – Saltlake intends to provide this service to more than 1000 Kolkata Traffic Police personnel by the year end.
