Kolkata music concert, East meets West

Kelly HansenKolkata, Feb 16 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): In an attempt to bridge the cultural gap between the East and West, Indian musician Niladri Kumar and popular western rock band ‘Foreigner’ will perform in the Science City Auditorium here on Feb 17.
“It is always great to perform in the Mecca of Indian Music that is Kolkata, and I am looking forward to it”, Niladri told IBNS on Tuesday.
Founder of ‘Foreigner’ Mick Jones said, “We are touring India for the first time; until now we have performed in three Indian cities. It was great performing in front of such music-loving audience. We are definitely looking forward for the Thursday’s show.”
Niladri Kumar is the son of noted Indian Sitar maestro Pandit Kartick Kumar. He is said to be one of the most gifted singers of Indian classical music at present.
‘Foreigner’ is one of the most popular western rock bands with veteran musicians like Kelly Hansen Mick Jones in their ranks.
Seagream’s 100 Pipers in association with Nokia, Network 18 and E18 have organised this concert in 5 Indian cities, Kolkata being the fourth city.
Before Kolkata, they have performed in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. After Thursday’s show they will visit Bangalore for their last concert of their musical tour.
