Kolkata, Dec 26 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): With Christmas and New Year round the corner, everyone is in festive mood and to add more fun to this festive season, Kolkata now hosts a fair of handicrafts and indigenous food here from Friday.
The exhibition fair titled ‘The Kolkata Haat’ is organized by AIM, Simplex Projects with the patronage of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The haat focuses on rural handicrafts and handlooms, presenting food and cultural activities at the same time.
The exhibition brings Kantha works from Birbhum, Dokra and Wood work of Burdwan, Madhubani painting of Bihar, Tanjore painting of Tamil Nadu, wooden work from Saharanpur, miniature painting of Rajasthan, Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh , wooden toys from Karnataka and textiles and silks of Bhagalpur.
Some dance performances were also held to enchance the enjoyment of the exhibition like Dhamsha from Pashim Midnapore, Chhou and Natua dance from Purulia, Pata Naach from Birbhum, Ranpa dance from Burdwan, Sarpa from Bankura, Golam Fakir and his team, Rauf dance from Kashmir, Gutipoa from Orissa, Bihu from Assam, Kathputli from Gujarat and Kachhi Ghodi from Rajasthan.
The exhibition commenced on Dec 23 and will continue for 11 days.
