Kolkata, Apr 5, 2011 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Kolkata witnessed enthralling performances by Bangalore-based musicians ‘BRAT Pack’, Monday night , as a fund raising initiative for Vaani Deaf Children’s Foundation & the Gina Forever Foundation.
The group was lead by Stanley Pinto, Carlton Braganza and Venkat Subramaniyam.
Veteran actor Victor Banerjee and singer Usha Uthup were present at the venue to support the cause and Brinda Crishna, Director, Vaani also graced the occasion.
All the money raised from the event was forwarded to the aid of deaf children and aging musicians, said the organizers.
The show was a welcome break from the regular musical shows as it was being done to give and not to take back.
Featuring music from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, the original BRAT Pack, the group brought back 1960s Las Vegas to life.
“Vaani Deaf Children’s Foundation believes that being deaf, the children feel a complete disconnect from the world around them. The feeling of isolation and loneliness develops within a child which results in an inability to develop,” said a spokesperson.
“The ‘BRAT Pack’ a musical evening is a fund raising program by Vaani to help the deaf children to have a secure & healthy lifestyle and give a boost to their spirits. A deaf child has the right to formal education and Vaani’s training programme creates the medium of opportunity and change for the deaf child’s overall intellectual and social abilities,” said the spokesperson.
According to latest data, 1 out of every 1000 children born is deaf. 80% of deaf children are born to hearing families and never establish communication within their own families. 530 schools in India educate around 50,000 deaf children in the age group of 5 to 18 years. The other children do not receive any formal education.
