Kolkata, May 12 (IBNS): West Bengal Sports Minister Madan Mitra flagged off the 13th edition of Kaviguru Rally 2012, presented by real estate developer Siddha Group and organized by the Bengal Motor Sports Club, from of Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday morning.
The rally, organized as a tribute to world bard Rabindranath Tagore, will conclude at 4:00 pm at Santiniketan town in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
The rally, approved by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), witnessed participation from the motor sports enthusiasts from the city.
A total of 30 four wheelers (consisting of mostly Esteems, Gypsies and Cedias) and 19 motorcycles took part in the rally.
The rally will cover a distance of 300 kilometers and will traverse through the treacherous terrains of Sonamukhi Jungle.
This year the vehicles will pass through Durgapur, Murshidabad and Bishnupur before reaching Santiniketan.
The rally offers Rs. 1 lakh as prize money with the four wheeler winner standing to win Rs. 25,000 and the two wheeler champion to get Rs. 15,000.
“We are amazed to see the enthusiasm being exuded by all the participants,” said Sanjay Jain, Managing Director, Siddha Group.
