Kolkata, Dec 17 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Marudhara, an organization promoting Rajasthani culture, gave Kolkatans a chance to get the essence of the desert state at ‘Marumela’, a two-day event that started on Saturday.
‘Marumela’ was inaugurated by Sarala Ji Birla, the philanthropist B.K.Birla and industrialist Hari Prasad Ji Kanoria.
Birla said, “Marudhara honours talented artists of Rajasthan in Kolkata.”
Hari Prasad Ji Kanoria said, “ From this mela, we become more united and we gets cultural inspirations.”
He also stressed on woman empowerment in Rajasthan.
Marudhara, which aims to promote, preserve and enrich Rajasthani heritage and culture, celebrated its Silver Jubilee this year.
People will get the essence of Rajasthani tradition in the form of ‘Ghoomer’ and ‘Gair’ dance in the mela.
Various competitions will also be held along with dance performances, music and drama.
Apart from these, the mela also houses Rajasthani food, handicraft and game stalls.
Swaroop Khan from Rajasthan of ‘Indian Idol’ frame, mesmerized the audience with his songs and he was awarded Charitable Trust Prize of Rs.31,000 by Marudhara.
25 Rajasthani women from Kolkata, who have excelled in the respective fields, were also awarded by Marudhara.
