Kolkata, Mar 27 (IBNS): Kolkata based designer boutique Debasree’s on Monday unveiled its new designer line titled ‘Swapno’ (dream) to usher in the Bengali New Year.
Tollywood actor Rituparna Sengupta, television actor Manali Dey and city model Sraboni were present at the occasion.
Speaking about the new designer line, Debasree, the owner of the boutique, said: “I have designed these sarees for mass Indian women, who do not really boast of size zero figures, but love to drape elegantly and sensuously. All these sarees are an experimental combination of traditionalism and contemporary motifs.”
“For the first time, I have combined net with traditional borders of Kanjeevaram, Balucharis and Bomkais. This half-and-half concept will fit the shape and size of any Indian women of any age,” she added.
Talking about the uniqueness of the new arrival, she said: “Since it is summer season I have focused on net as it is airy and comfortable. So after wearing the dresses one will feel comfortable in this humid weather. “
When asked why the new collection has been titled ‘Swapno’ she said: “I always dreamt of adorning Indian women with something traditional yet contemporary. So, Swapno is the extension of my dream. It turned my dream into reality.”
Commenting on the new collection, Rituparna said: “By keeping the traditional style in mind Debasree has used contemporary art in the sarees. Because how much westernized we are, at the end, we prefer traditional dresses in the occasions. Moreover, saree is our (referring to Bengalis) identity.”
The Swapno collection includes saree, salwar kameej, sherwani, and punjabi.
