Kolkata, Apr 11 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Renowned classical dancer Kanak Rele touched down at Kolkata on Friday to discuss on her new dance drama based on Gautam Buddha.
“The Enlightened One-Gutam Buddha” is the drama that Rele is all set to perform in the city in October and on Friday afternoon she talked about it with the people of the city.
“I feel that there is so much turmoil all around in the world so Buddha’s message of compassion is necessary,” Rele said.
The dance drama is based on the multiple research that has been carried out in the Nalanda on various facets of Indian dance.
She said that a special focus of the dance drama lies in the music used in it that focuses on Indian elements rather than than on the use of contemporary compartmentalization.
The authenticity has also been maintained in the use of costumes and ornamentation which have been adapted from the ‘Ajanta’ frescoes.
“The Government of India will like to send us, it will be specially good for South-East Asian countries like Thailand and Cambodia,” Rele said about his tours.
Leading Mohini Attam (dance form) exponent, Rele, has also contributed significantly in the field of education ad research in the field of dance and allied subjects.
She founded the Nalanda Dance Research Centre, which was officially recognised as a research institute by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
