Interview with Priyanka Sarkar.
Priyanka Sarkar: Yes, Chirodini Tumi Je Amar is my first Bengali feature film.
Priyanka Sarkar: No, I have never been to any achools before neither I believe somebody can learn acting from any such schools. However, if someone has experience with TV or Plays, he or she would be more free in front of the camera.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, there are many and I am not against any of them. But again, I personally do not think you can learn acting from such institutions.
Priyanka Sarkar: Acting has always been my passion. Also, my mom always wanted to act. She was very active one time and used to write script for plays and act in local dramas. But she could not continue for some family problems. We two sisters have got the passion for acting from our mother. Then suddenly I got the oppertunity.
Priyanka Sarkar: Yes, I actually went for audition for a different character in the movie. There is a charected called “Priyanka” in the film who is my friend. I was originally called to do that role. After I did my audition for the “Priyanka” Character, I was asked to try the main charecter also. Then they gave me the script of the mail role “Pallabi”. Then I tried Pallabi too. Finally they sected my for the leading role.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, I don’t know what to say. So many friends have asked me the same questions many time before. I am enjoying the success very much. I am specially excited about the new audience that the film is able to produce. “Chirodini Tume Je Amar” has broken the tradion of “rural” movie goers for Bengali Films. With good script and direction, this movie is bringing the urban movie goers to cinema halls. Specially my my own generation, who hardly ever watch a Bengali Film in cinema halls, are watching the film multiple times. I am enjoying this very much.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, to tell you the truth, I do not normally watch too many Bengali films. While surfing various channels I may come across some good Bengali Films and I sometimes start watching. I definitely watch old Bengali films, because they have a very good storyline.
Priyanka Sarkar: I am talking about Uttam Kumar, Aparna Sen… I think during that time the story of the Bengali films were very good. For every Bengali movie goers story is probably the most important factor. You also have to think about the new generation and write a good script fo the new generation. I think that is the reason why “Chirodini Tumi Je Amar” has been such a huge success.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, it is probably not right to stick to what I have already done. I want to try a lot of things. I do not want to bore people, neither I do not want to get bored myself. I would like to play Kareena Karoor’s role in “Jab We Met” …I would like to play a lot of things.
Priyanka Sarkar: I am still studying. I went to Orient school in Behala upto 11 and 1/2. Then I started to work on the film “Chirodini Tumi Je Amar”. I was having problems with my old school so I moved to Modern school in New Alipore.I am studying arts right now.
Priyanka Sarkar: This is a very difficult question to answer. I would like to try different directors, co-actors, scripts and so on. Frankly, if I take any particular name, I will be in controvertial and political problems! (laughing)!
Priyanka Sarkar: Sure, I would definitely like to work with Raj Chakraborty again. Rajda is a great director. He can communicate very well with the actors. I really liked the “work shop” that he did befoe the film. The script by Salilda was superb. He has always been very supportive. He always said “this may be a better way to do it” but he never told “don’t do this” ever. He always told me not to “act”! He explained the script, the background and then told me to do what I feel from the script.
Priyanka Sarkar: Of course. At least our generation is now very much internet savvy. We are also getting more audience for Bengali films even from the cities. So I think internet promotion is very important for Tollywood film industry. Well, not only Tollywood, it is actually very important for any other industry in our generation.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, I do not have internet at home now but I used to chat a lot. I used to visit many celebrity sites also.
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, this question is quite private but I am almost in every where including Orkut, Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo…
Priyanka Sarkar: Well, I don’t know what to say, but I would definitely like to thank all of them a lot. Thanks everybody for watching my film and appreciating my work.
