Indian League: East Bengal remain undefeated

Kolkata, Jan 14 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Leaders East Bengal (EB) felt the absence of leading striker Tolgay Ozbay and survived a penalty kick in first session were held 0-0 by fighting Chirag United (CU) at the end of the 9th round of Indian League (I-L) at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Friday.
CU’s best known goal scorer Joshimar was to be blamed as he missed penalty shot to deprive his club a sure win against East Bengal, who still remain undefeated.
Australian Tolgay Ozbay, who scored seven goals so far, missed the I-L match for the first time with two bookings and was a mere bench-sitter as his red-and-gold missed full points for the second time after Mumbai FC in away match.

East Bengal in the previous game defeated Pune Fc 1-0 and before that drew 1-1 against Mumbai FC.

Chirag United, coached by Subrata Bhattacharjee, had remained unbeaten by two Kolkata giants, including Mohun Bagan, for 2010
East Bengal still held atop the pole position with 23 points after ninth round, 5 points ahead of Salgaocar SC, whereas was Chirag at 5th place with 14 points.
Though East Bengal had been on a golden run, they had not been able to beat Chirag United.
These two teams had played twice against each other last year.
In Durand Cup, Chirag United beat East Bengal 1-0 in semi final match, while the Kolkata Premier League match ended in a 1-1 draw.
EB coach Trevor James Morgan was right in his his pre-match comment, ”It is a 50:50 match.”
Arnab Mondol of Chirag United was declared man of the match for his outstanding play in defence.
Inside thirty-five minutes, CU had a rosy chance to score but Joshimar’s set-peice attemt missed the post by centimeters.
Chirag got penalty when Joshmar, after beating Gurwinder Singh from right side attack, was pulled down by EB medio Mehtab Hossain inside the box.
Chirag, however, defeated Mohun Bagan by a solitary goal.
