Indian girls defeat ITF Women’s top seeds-Women’s Tennis Tournamnet

Kolkata, Jan 25 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): It was a day of underdogs at the ITF Women’s Tennis Tournamnet in Kolkata with top seeded players biting the dust thanks to girls from India.

Both the 3rd seed Nicole Clerico of Italy and the 4th seed Shimuzu Sakiko of Japan were upset by Indian girls Sheetal Goutham and National Champion Ankita Raina.
Ankita Raina fought gallantly to win in three sets the score being 6-2 , 2-6 , 6-4 and Sheetal Goutham outclast her 3rd seeded Italian opponent 6-2 , 6-1 . Local Girl Shivika Burman fought gallantly but
could not beat her 2nd seeded opponent Tanaka Mari and lost 6-4 , 6-3. Fed cup player Poojashree Venkatesha had no difficulty in beating her Indian opponent and won 6-0 ,6-0.
